SIDNEY, Neb. — The Sidney Police Department is advising residents of a law enforcement training exercise scheduled for Feb. 18 and 19 at the former Sidney Regional Medical Center hospital building.

According to the department, the training will take place at the old hospital located at 645 Osage St. and will involve officers from the Sidney Police Department, Nebraska Wildlife Conservation officers and other area law enforcement agencies.

Officers will participate in ALERRT, or Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training, which is the national standard for responding to active-attack situations. Police said the training is designed to prepare officers to respond effectively to high-risk incidents and protect the community.

During the two-day training period, residents may notice an increased presence of law enforcement personnel and vehicles at the Osage Street location. Officers will be using tactical equipment, and the sound of blanks and simulated gunfire may be heard coming from the facility.

The department said the realistic training environment allows officers to experience the stress of high-stakes situations in a controlled and safe setting, helping them build skills and improve response times.

The Sidney Police Department thanked Nebraska Wildlife Conservation for hosting the training and allowing agencies to train together, noting the importance of regional partnerships in maintaining public safety.
