Nebraska U.S. Senator comments on U.S.-Greenland affairs

U.S. Sen. Pete Ricketts of Nebraska held a press conference highlighting President Trump’s achievements during the first year back in office.
United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Greenland were significant topics throughout the conference. Ricketts said he supports Trump and ICE’s initiatives to enforce national laws against illegal immigrants.
When asked about Greenland and NATO, Ricketts mentioned an agreement reached ten years ago between the United States and European countries.
“They all agreed to three percent spend of GDP, yet just a couple of years ago, only seven countries, including the United States had actually reached that goal. Now, what you’re seeing is that Europeans are taking more of the responsibility for defending Europe, as the United States looks to deter communist China, so I don’t have any concerns in regards the strength of NATO.”
In a news conference, Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said there will be an increased military presence in and around Greenland, including aircrafts, ships and soldiers, as well as military presence from other NATO allies.
While Poulsen did not named these allies, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson wrote on X that some of Swedish’s military officers are arriving in Greenland.
“Together, they will prepare events within the framework of the Danish exercise Operation Arctic Endurance,” Kristersson said.
