Old Freighter's Museum making basement repairs

NEBRASKA CITY – The Nebraska City Historical Society announced a Wirth Foundation grant to assist with repairs of the basement at the Old Freighters Museum.
Duane Smith of the Wirth Foundation said the foundation is interested in supporting the museum and its telling of the Westward movement.
Kathy McKillip of the historical society said the grant will not only help with repairs after a pipe rupture in the basement in 2024, but will help utilize all of the museum’s space for distance learning with state and national organizations related to the Westward movement.
The goal is to unveil the basement space before the peak of the travel season.
McKillip said a more comprehensive approach to Nebraska’s history will enhance visitor experience during the country’s 250th anniversary.
