HASTINGS, Neb. - Ground is officially broken on a $35 million infrastructure project in Hastings. City leadership along with representatives of the Nebraska Department of Transportation joined Gov. Jim Pillen for the ceremony Monday morning.

"I took this job a year ago, and we've been talking about it for a year. So, it is nice to get something done," Mayor Jay Beckby said. "Today is a big day for Hastings, it is a big day for a partnership with the department of transportation."

The scope of work will reconstruct nearly 2.5 miles of Highway 6 on the southeast edge of Hastings with the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Elm Avenue and South Street. The City of Hastings expect work to be done by the end of 2028.

"I had to become governor to appreciate all the work that goes on in the department of transportation, as a lifelong Nebraskan all these things are kind of taken for granted," Pillen said.
