Two people die in Highway 98 crash near Pierce

PIERCE, Neb. — Fire officials used the Jaws of Life to rescue occupants trapped in a deadly two-vehicle crash just east of Pierce.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department says the crash was reported around 9:15 pm Friday night at the intersection of Highway 98 and 552nd Avenue, which is about 1.5 miles east of town.
Investigators say a westbound vehicle on Highway 98 crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle.
Authorities say both drivers died at the scene. Passengers from both vehicles were transported to a local hospital.
One passenger from the eastbound vehicle was later airlifted to an Omaha hospital in critical condition.
Multiple agencies responded to the crash. The Nebraska State Patrol is currently investigating the cause of the crash.
