Sidney High School students spread Christmas cheer through caroling across community
SIDNEY, Neb. - While many spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day indoors, a group of Sidney High School students took to the streets to spread holiday cheer through song.
Jelena Miller, Zaid Guerrero, Raven Dinorog, LJ Escobar and Kailyn Beavers spent both days caroling across Sidney, visiting homes in town and even traveling about 10 minutes outside the city limits. The students, who are members of Sidney High School’s show choir, represented a mix of grade levels.
The group said the goal was simple: bring the Christmas spirit to others - even without the traditional winter weather. Sidney recorded a record high temperature of 68 degrees on Christmas Day, leaving the holiday snowless.
“We just kind of really wanted to spread the Christmas spirit,” Dinorog said. “We really missed it this year. After we did it yesterday, we felt a lot better.”
The students sang a variety of classic Christmas carols, with “Deck the Halls” becoming their most requested and frequently performed song.
“Probably ‘Deck the Halls,’” Dinorog said. “It’s the one we know the most and people like it.”
Residents who opened their doors were greeted with a cheerful “Merry Christmas." The students said the experience helped lift their own spirits as much as it did those they sang for, turning an unseasonably warm holiday into a memorable one.
