Sheepgate urges public to donate unused vehicles to support those in recovery

BEATRICE, Neb. – A local nonprofit with a powerful mission is asking for help in an unusual, yet impactful way—by donating your old car, running or not.
Sheepgate, a long-term, faith-based recovery center just east of Beatrice, offers a 12-month residential program for women struggling with addiction, depression, anxiety, and other life-controlling issues. The center, part of Adult & Teen Challenge USA, operates entirely on donations and doesn’t charge women for the care they receive.
“Our program is 100% donor funded,” says Teresa, who helps lead the facility with her husband, Curtis. “We never want to turn anyone away because they can’t afford it. For many, this is their last hope.”
One of the key ways they raise funds? Vehicle donations.
“If you’ve got a car sitting around that you’re not using, we’ll come get it—running or not,” says Curtis. “We handle the title, the paperwork, everything.”
The donated vehicles are auctioned off three times a year, with proceeds directly supporting the Beatrice center’s operations. That includes everything from utilities to therapy programs, community outreach, and daily care for the women who live on-site.
Sheepgate isn’t just about recovery—it’s about transformation. Teresa and Curtis both came through addiction themselves and have devoted their lives to helping others break free. They now witness women who enter their program shattered and leave with renewed purpose.
“One woman came to us after 35 years of addiction,” Teresa shared. “She couldn’t even walk up the steps when she arrived. Now she’s full of life and energy. She says she never imagined she could feel joy again.”
Sheepgate’s Beatrice campus sits on 10 acres and includes a garden, chickens, and daily work-therapy and class sessions that help build structure and confidence in the residents’ lives.
