Blue Hill resident Rita M. Roth, 91, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2025, at her home.

 

Rosary will precede the Mass Thursday morning, May 8, at 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Craig Clinch officiating. The burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. with the family present 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at the Butler Volland funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to the St. Cecilia Catholic Church or to the William and Rita Roth Trust. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Rita was born July 17, 1933, in Delcarbon, CO to Cornelio and Isadora “Dora” (Hinojosa) Lucero. She was the fourth child of eight children (four boys, four girls). She graduated high school; Carbon Jr. College in Price, UT; St. Mark’s Nursing School in Salt Lake City, UT; received her bachelor’s degree from Hastings College, Hastings, NE; and her master’s degree from Kearney College, Kearney, NE. She practiced nursing for 39 years at Mary Lanning Hospital and the Hastings Regional Center.

 

She married William “Bill” Roth in 1955 and remained in the union for 69 years and was blessed with seven sons and one daughter. Her pleasures in life were her family, her profession, nature (walking the riverbanks), crocheting and other textile arts, painting, canning, reading, and dancing. Rita was a voracious reader, reading over 300 books a year. Rita has a Native American artifacts collection of hundreds of arrowheads and tools she has found along the Little Blue River.

 

Rita was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, David, Ramon, and Cornelius Lucero; sister, Carol Webster; grandson, Joshua Roth; and step-grandson, Alex Pais.
