CHADRON, Neb. – The Chadron State College rodeo team had one of its most outstanding weekends ever at the Casper College rodeo this past weekend, April 11-13.

The leaders included senior Jake Chasek of Mitchell, Nebraska, who won the tie down roping and also was the header on the first-place team roping entry. Seth Glass of Central City, Nebraska, was the heeler.

Chasek's winning tie down times were 10.2 and 9.6 seconds. He and Glass tied for first in both go-rounds of team roping in 7.2 and 8.6 seconds.

A third Chadron State event winner was freshman Mejrusa Rustemovic of Kiowa, Colorado in the barrel race. Rustemovic and her gray gelding named Player were fifth in the first go-round in 14.23 seconds and won the finals go-round on Sunday in 13.92 seconds for the overall championship.

Chadron State cowgirl Makayla Wray of Ord, Nebraska, was a member of the second-place team roping tandem, joining with Eastern Wyoming College cowboy Teagan Gourneau with times of 9.2 and 8.6 seconds.

Also placing high for Chadron State were McKenna Fisher of Sutherland, Nebraska, who was third in goat tying, and Cinch Kiger of Overton, Nebraska, who was fourth in bareback riding while scoring 70 points in both go-rounds. Also, Marcus Mader of Broadus, Montana, won the first go-round of steer wrestling in 4.6 seconds, but took a no-time in the finals.

Another CSC contestant, Colton Holoubeck of Kearney, Nebraska, also was in the finals of steer wrestling after flipping his first steer in 5.9 seconds.

In addition, CSC senior Elle Ravenscroft of Cody, Nebraska, placed sixth in the barrel race with runs of 14.35 and 14.50 seconds. She also reached the finals of breakaway roping after catching her first calf in 2.9 seconds.

Even dating back to when Jean Fuchs, Kathy Kennedy and Martee Meter won the women's team championship at 11 of the 14 rodeos in the Great Plains Region in 1978-79 and when Will Farrell and Dustin Elliott joined forces to win the collegiate bull riding championship three times in four years at the turn of the 21st Century, Chadron State has seldom had a more productive rodeo.

"This is the kind of weekend we've been waiting for," CSC Rodeo Coach Lane Day said early Monday morning. "Nearly everything fell into place for us.  We don't have all the information yet, but I'm sure we did well in both team standings."

The final rodeo of the season in the Central Rocky Mountain Region will be April 25-27 at the University of Wyoming.
