Gordon city council votes to begin contract negotiations with new city manager

GORDON, Neb. - A familiar face in Gordon may soon step into the role of city manager. On Thursday night, the city council voted to begin contract negotiations with Scott Fleming.
Fleming is currently employed by the Gordon Police Department as the school resource officer for Gordon/Rushville Public Schools. He’s also a Marine Corps veteran, has a bachelor’s degree in business administration, and is in the process of earning his master’s degree.
“He is very enthusiastic about the position. I am looking forward to working with him in this role. I feel that he will work well with the citizens of Gordon to improve our community,” said City Clerk Kim Buchan, who is currently serving as interim city manager.
Beyond his professional background, Fleming is married with four daughters.
The city hopes to have a contract ready for council approval at the April 10 meeting.
As previously reported by News Channel Nebraska, the council voted earlier this year to terminate the contract of former city manager John Reed.
