GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — Officials in Central Nebraska say a fire at a strip mall caused about $100,000 in damage.

It happened around 7:30 Wednesday night at Star Nails, which is part of a W 2nd St. strip mall. A news release says crews found heavy smoke inside the business when they arrived and breached the door. Firefighters quickly found the source of the fire and extinguished it.

Fire crews then checked for fire in the adjoined Paradise Donuts and Subway businesses but found no evidence that the fire spread. A roof inspection and overhaul operations didn’t reveal any other concerns.

According to the release, crews cut gas and electricity to Star Nails for safety precautions during the incident. Crews also shut off water service at its single shut-off point due to melted supply lines.

The fire is believed to be electrical in nature, but the investigation remains ongoing. The business was empty at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.
