Hastings Police arrest intoxicated man for assaulting woman

HASTINGS, Neb. – An Omaha man is facing multiple charges for assaulting his girlfriend in Hastings after a juvenile called 9-1-1 to report the incident.
On Sunday, the Hastings Police Department responded to a home on S Woodland Ave. around 8:30 p.m. on a report of a man assaulting a woman.
Officers on scene found a woman with visible injuries to her body, and the victim told police that the suspected man had fled the scene.
The woman told investigators that her and Jeffrey White, 34, got into an argument at her home, which led to White pinning the victim on a couch and strangling her by covering the victim's mouth.
Authorities say the victim was able to escape White's grasp, only to be strangled against a wall for a second time.
According to HPD, a juvenile who was in the home at the time called 9-1-1 to report the assault, causing White to flee the home.
Later Sunday evening, Hastings Police located White in his vehicle in a parking lot along S. Burlington Ave. and arrested him on suspicion of assault.
Police say that White was intoxicated and blew a preliminary breath test of more than three times the legal limit after his arrest.
White was lodged into the Adams County Jail and faces charges of third-degree domestic assault, assault by strangulation, menacing threats, second-degree false imprisonment, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
