MONDAY UPDATE: Tragic new information uncovered Monday reveals an even closer connection between a woman murdered on Saturday night in Seward and her alleged assailant.

Court documents reveal that the two had previously been engaged, and the victim had filed a protective order against the alleged shooter less than two months ago.

According to our news partners 10/11 News, Seward County police received a 911 call to a Seward home shortly before midnight on Saturday. There, they discovered 56-year-old Casey Kindt leaving the home with apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds. And, inside the house, they discovered 36-year-old Jamie Hagen dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Now, court documents show that Hagen had filed a protection order against Kindt two days after he allegedly assaulted her and threatened her and her daughter in December. Kindt was facing multiple charges, including for terroristic threats, domestic assault, and child abuse, stemming from the December incident.

Less than two months later, Kindt posted bond on Friday, and now is accused of killing his former fiancee the next day.

Our initial story from over the weekend is below.

SEWARD, Neb. — Authorities identified the victim and suspect in a fatal shooting that took place late Saturday night in Seward.

The Nebraska State Patrol said officers responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance at a residence near Lincoln and North Second streets at 11:46 p.m. Upon arrival, officers encountered 54-year-old Casey Kindt outside the home with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Inside the home, officers found 36-year-old Jamie Hagen deceased with multiple gunshot wounds, according to NSP.

A juvenile inside the residence made the initial 911 call and was unharmed, officials said.

Kindt was transported to Seward Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries before being transferred to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha for further treatment. Authorities said troopers are maintaining custody of Kindt during his medical care.

Investigators said Hagen had a protection order against Kindt. Authorities believe Kindt entered the home, shot Hagen multiple times, and then turned the gun on himself.

NSP is leading the homicide investigation with assistance from the Seward Police Department and the Seward County Sheriff’s Office. The case remains under investigation.
