Funds awarded by Sidney And Greater Area Fund

GURLEY – The Sidney and Greater Area (SAGA) Fund recently awarded a $2,500 grant to Leyton Public Schools to support the upgrades and modernization of the playground.

This project will provide a safe, engaging, and upgraded play environment for Leyton students and the community.

Leyton Public Schools is dedicated to creating an environment where students can thrive academically and socially. The playground project will help achieve this goal by replacing outdated equipment, enhancing safety, and providing an attractive recreational space that will benefit students and local families alike.

“We are thrilled to contribute to Leyton Public Schools’ playground upgrade,” said Melissa Norgard, Chairperson of the SAGA Fund. “Schools in small communities are often the heart of recreation for children, and by supporting this project, we are ensuring that the children in Gurley and Dalton have access to a safe, modern play area. This new equipment will not only enhance student experiences but also serve as a valuable resource for the entire community.”

Leyton Public Schools’ playground has long been a central gathering place for students and local children, but much of the equipment has remained unchanged for decades. The new playground equipment will address critical safety concerns, provide a positive after-school play area, and ensure that the playground continues to be a community hub for families in the region.

“We are grateful to the SAGA Fund for supporting our vision of a modern and safe playground,” said Matt McLaughlin, Superintendent of Leyton Public Schools. “As our student numbers continue to grow, it’s essential that we provide facilities that foster not only academic but also physical and social development. This new playground will be a source of pride for our students, staff, and the community.”

Over the next several months, Leyton Public Schools will engage staff, community members, and play structure companies to finalize plans and select equipment for the upgrade. The goal is to have new play structures installed at the Elementary School by the end of the year, creating a welcoming and safe space for students and families. This playground improvement will serve not only the school but also the surrounding communities as the school opens its gates after school and during summer months to allow local children to play. This project is a testament to Leyton’s commitment to fostering a safe, positive environment where children can play, learn, and grow.
