Woodhead to be inducted into College Football Hall of Fame
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Chadron State great Danny Woodhead will be inducted into the National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame this Tuesday, December 10 at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The induction is part of the 66th NFF Annual Awards Dinner, which will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. (PT) and will be live streamed on ESPN+, ESPN's subscription-based streaming service.
Woodhead earned selection to the Hall of Fame in his first year on the ballot. He is part of a 2024 class of 19 former players, which includes NFL standouts such as Randy Moss, Larry Fitzgerald and Julius Peppers. Three coaches are also being inducted, including former Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Frank Solich.
Woodhead becomes the first Chadron State player to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He remains Division II's all-time career leading rusher with 7,962 rushing yards and also racked up 9,480 career all-purpose yards.
He won the Harlon Hill Trophy, given to Division II's most outstanding player, in back-to-back seasons in 2006 and 2007, years that he also led Chadron State to back-to-back RMAC regular season championships. Woodhead is one of just four players to win multiple Harlon Hill awards.
According to the College Football Hall of Fame, when the 2024 Hall of Fame Class is officially inducted in December, only 1,093 players and 233 coaches will have been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame from the nearly 5.78 million who have played or coached the game during the past 156 years. In other words, less than two one-hundredths of a percent (.02%) of the individuals who have played/coached the game have earned this distinction.
