GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - A Latina entrepreneur is the winner of Big Idea Grand Island 2024.

Melissa Zurcher took home the big prize Monday night at the Big Idea Grand Island 2024. Her idea, Deliboards GI, is a takeout and deli restaurant.

“I feel so excited and blessed last night," said Zurcher. "This price will give us the boost the business needs and just to bring like I say, I wanna continue elevating Grand Island because now is my home, and you know, I’m from Mexico but now I’m here, we are building our family here and for me is really, really important that we grow together in this community.”

The contest, hosted by Central Community College Entrepreneurship Center, is based on the TV show "Shark Tank." Each entrepreneur has just two minutes to pitch their business to a panel of judges and a live audience.

After their presentation, the judges and audience ask questions before choosing the winner.

Zurcher plans to continue expanding her business and offering the community a great product.
