Hastings Softball comes up short in Class B State Softball Championship in 1-0 pitcher's duel
HASTINGS, Neb. – In a battle of two of the best pitchers in Class B softball, Beatrice prevailed 1-0 over Hastings in 8 innings in the 2024 Class B State Softball Championship.
Monday's championship game was the third meeting between Beatrice and Hastings this season. The Lady Orange won the first game on Aug 24. 3-2, and Hastings won game two 8-2 on Sept. 21.
Junior Layla Boyko started in the circle for Beatrice, and Freshman Ella Tinsman started for Hastings.
Neither team could get a run home in the first seven innings, and the game went tied 0-0 into the 8th.
The Tigers had 1st and 3rd with one out, but couldn't scored.
In the Lady Orange's at-bat in the 8th inning, Tatum Templemeyer hit a single up the middle to score the game's only run to win 1-0.
Tinsman suffered the tough luck loss pitching 7.2 innings, allowing just three hits, no walks, and striking out 15 batters.
Boyko pitched a complete game of 8.0 innings, allowing five hits, two walks, and eight strikeouts.
The 2024 Tiger Softball team finishes with their third Class B runner up in school history, with a record of 31-8.
