UPDATE 7/31 7:30 P.M. - Hastings Police say the 13-year-old girl is from Ozu, Japan and was participating in the Hastings International Exchange Organization. The girl remains in critical condition and officials are working to transfer her by medical helicopter to Children's Hospital in Omaha. Her parents are in Japan and have been notified. 

HASTINGS, Neb. – A teenage girl is hospitalized after they were rescued by a lifeguard at the Hastings Water Park on Wednesday.

According to a city news release, Hastings Police and Hastings Fire and Rescue responded to the Hastings Aquacourt at 1:50 p.m.

Authorities say a 13-year-old girl was moving from the shallow end of the pool to the deep end when she went under the water and did not resurface. 

A lifeguard pulled the unconscious teen from the water and began life-saving measures. 

The girl was transported to Mary Lanning Healthcare and was in critical condition. 

Authorities did not release the name or an update of the girl's condition as of Wednesday evening. 

The Hastings Aquacourt was evacuated and closed for the remainder of the day.

The incident is being investigated by Hastings Police, who is reviewing security footage from the pool. 

The city is providing counselors to meet with Aquacourt staff.
