Detroit Safety Situational Awareness To Prevent Gun Violence, Summer Tour Launch
As part of the new safety initiative, the team will share important situational awareness techniques to help reduce gun violence victims in the United States. Sharlene Burris, CEO of Safe Sense, says that the company will be visiting the Detroit/Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties throughout the summer of 2024 to introduce the concept of “personal safety situational awareness” and offer clever and practical tips in developing a “safe sense” to avoid becoming an assault victim.

The initiative comes at a time when gun violence has touched unprecedented levels. Burris explains that the new partnership with the National Safety Council is intended to promote situational awareness as the first step to preventing criminals from targeting individuals who they deem vulnerable. As such, the touring program will teach people from all walks of life to take a more active role in protecting themselves from becoming victims of gun violence, robberies, or physical attacks.
“The lack of safety situational awareness makes individuals vulnerable targets for theft, assault, and other dangers, including gun violence,” Burris says.
Traditionally, the National Safety Council has focused on safety in the workplace. However, Burris believes that by incorporating safety self-empowerment into the NSC’s initiatives, more people will be able to reduce their risk of any assault, anywhere.
