Two Grand Island officers injured in Friday night altercation

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — Two officers are recovering from injuries after police say a man fought them in Grand Island.

A police news release says officers responded to a disturbance downtown around 6:30 Friday night. According to the release, officers tried to stop Joshua Rodenbaugh but he pulled away and started to fight. Police tell NCN that officers deployed a TASER against Rodenbaugh but it was ineffective. Officers then used physical force, including knee strikes, to subdue and arrest Rodenbaugh.

Two officers were injured and treated at a local hospital. Police say one of them will need ongoing medical attention and possibly surgery.

Rodenbaugh is charged with obstruction, resisting arrest, first-degree assault on an officer and third-degree assault on an officer.
