City of Grand Island awarded $750,000 for affordable housing
A city in Central Nebraska is getting funds to build affordable housing.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb.- - A city in Central Nebraska is getting funds to build affordable housing.
According to a news release by the city of Grand Island, the Central Nebraska Growth Foundation and the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation has been awarded $750,000 from the Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
The funds will be utilized to build 15 new homes, eight of which will be reserved for residents at or below 120% of the area median income. The houses will be built in Hoppe Development’s Orchard Subdivision, which is on the northeast side of town.
The Nebraska Department of Economic Development received 70 applications requesting more than $40 million in assistance.
According to the NDED, CNGF and Hoppe Development, the partnership is a step towards addressing the lack of available housing in the area.
A groundbreaking celebration will take place on June 5th.
