HASTINGS, Neb. – Hastings College is one vote away from beginning renovations on existing student buildings and building a new residence hall.

On Tuesday, the Hastings Planning Commission voted 7-0 in favor to recommend Hastings College's proposed campus improvements.

A news release from the college says they're planning to launch the first phase of a new comprehensive plan this summer, with a focus on upgrading its residential infrastructure, followed by a significant renovation of the student union, and construction of a new residence hall.

With the planning commission's recommendation, the final approval lies in the hands of the Hastings City Council, which is expected to vote on the matter during their June 10 meeting.

If approved, half of the Bronco Village Apartments and every other residential facility on campus would undergo enhancements, ranging from lobby and common space improvements to furniture upgrades and, in the case of the Village Apartments, kitchen renovations, new furnishings and flooring.

Other improvements would be scheduled over the span of the next two years.
