HASTINGS, Neb. – A valid ID is required to vote in Tuesday's election. If you forget yours, you can still vote, but election officials warn it could delay official results.

For the first time this coming Tuesday, Nebraskans must show a valid form of photo ID when casting their ballot.

If you forget an ID after you arrive at your polling location, you're allowed to leave and retrieve one.

If you can't access one at all on Tuesday, you're still able to fill out a provisional ballot.

But, Adams County Election Commissioner Ramona Thomas says that could cause some official results, especially in close races, to be delayed.

"The results released on election night are unofficial are gone through," said Thomas. "But what is new this year, is that the people who did not show a photo ID at their polling locations have that 7-day period to come in and satisfy that requirement."

If that happens to you, you must bring a photo ID into your local election commission office for your vote to officially count.

"We do have to wait until all of those are satisfied to tabulate any of those votes." said Thomas.

If you haven't registered to vote yet for the primary election, unfortunately the registration deadline in Nebraska passed last Friday, but you can still register for November's general election.

If you have any questions about where you're registered to vote, or the new voter ID process in general, you're encouraged to contact your local election commission office.
