KEARNEY, Neb. — The Kearney Police Department is asking the public for patience and for information as it investigates a weekend shooting.

KPD posted on its social media channels around 10:00 Tuesday night that officers and other law enforcement agencies are still investigating a large disturbance and gun shots fired early Sunday morning. A previous news release said the incident happened around 2:30 in the 1000 block of W. 23rd St., which is one block south of the University of Nebraska-Kearney campus.

Tuesday’s post says investigators are analyzing large amounts of physical and digital evidence and interviewing multiple witnesses.

“Our primary focus is the safety of the entire community and locating those involved,” the social media post said.

Police are encouraging people to share information, photos or video from the incident if they have it. People can contact KPD at (308) 237-2104, the Buffalo County Crimestoppers at (308) 237-3424, or they can use the See It Say It Send It App. The post says people can remain anonymous while sharing information or data.

Police say nobody was hit by gunfire during the shooting, but one man suffered a stab wound to his leg. A police social media post said officers responded to a report of gunshots near the first shooting location later that night. Police haven’t released any information about the second possible shooting.
