HASTINGS, Neb. — Coming off one of the best seasons in Hastings College men’s basketball history, Reggie Thomas is making the jump to the Division l level.

Thomas announced his commitment to North Dakota on social media on Thursday.

“It just came down to who wants me the most and who really is bought into me,” Thomas said Thursday on the Doug & Daddy Show on ESPN Tri-Cities. “The coach I’ve been talking to, he’s been bought into me since day one since I entered the transfer portal. I just love that about him, he’s an amazing guy.” 

Thomas announced his intention to transfer after the Broncos lost in the opening round of the NAIA national tournament. He leaves after winning the GPAC player of the year award and becoming the first Bronco to earn first-team All-American status. Thomas 24.1 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting an incredible 51% from the field. His points average ranked him third in the country heading into the national tournament.

The Omaha native led the Broncos in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals and set the single-season scoring record with 760 points. Hastings College finished 23-9 and won its first GPAC tournament title on the strength of a 32-point effort from Thomas in the championship game.

North Dakota plays in the Summit League and an 18-14 overall record this season. The Fighting Hawks are led by coach Paul Sather, who will be entering his sixth season in Grand Forks.
