LINCOLN - An already record-breaking season for Southern Valley will continue into the state semis.

Already the all-time leader in wins, points scored, and points allowed in school history, the third-seeded Eagles won their 22nd straight (another school record) on Thursday, 50-39 over Elgin Public/Pope John in the Class D1 quarterfinals.

The Wolfpack started out the aggressor, opening a 14-10 lead after the first quarter. But Southern Valley methodically took over, taking control of the game in the third quarter and never looking back.

The Eagles will now play in a state semi-final for just the second time ever, joining the 2001 squad that lost to eventual Class C2 champ Sandy Creek, where they'll take on second-seeded Guardian Angels Central Catholic.
