JOHNSON LAKE, Neb. — Authorities in south-central Nebraska are investigating a utility vehicle accident that claimed the life of a teenager.

The Gosper County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy discovered the accident just before 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday. According to news release, it happened on the Chapel by the Lake access road at Johnson Lake, which is about 10 miles south of Lexington.

16-year-old Alberto Emilio Silva died at the scene. The Sheriff’s Office says he was not wearing a seat belt or helmet and was ejected from the side-by-side utility vehicle when he crashed. He was the only person in the vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing. Officials are conducting an autopsy.
