HASTINGS, Neb. – Scattered debris and a large hole in the ground is all that remains of a house that exploded early Sunday morning in Hastings.

Emergency personnel responded to a 9-1-1 call in the 600 block of S Boston Ave. around 3:15 Sunday morning. A city spokesman says secondary explosions were happening when crews arrived on scene, eventually causing the house to collapse.

Investigators say destructive devices were the likely cause of the explosions.

As of Monday afternoon, the state Fire Marshal and workers with Hastings Utilities were attending to the area and cleaning up debris.

One person who was in the house when it exploded has died. Their identity has still not been confirmed.

What exactly the 'destructive devices' were is still being confirmed, but there is no threat to the area.
