'We're 60-70% complete:' Hastings YMCA renovations remain on track
After more than six years of planning and more than a year of renovations, the Hastings YMCA is just months away from reopening their 16th street facility.
Hastings YMCA CEO Troy Stickels told the city council on Monday that the entire project is 60-70% complete.
The total cost for the updated facility is $19.4 million, and construction began in August of 2022.
The YMCA reached a milestone last month when they reopened their indoor swimming pool, which is the only indoor pool in Hastings.
"Last week we had eight swim teams come from out of town and have a swim meet," said Stickels. "We had 300 kids in there, and the wi-fi broke."
Now open in the pool is a sauna, hot tub, and steam room, which weren't open on the pool's opening day.
Stickels also said concrete for the new and bigger walking track has been poured and is the latest step to be completed.
The project is still on schedule to be completed by May of 2024.
