GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- The Tri-City Storm hockey team is putting a bigger emphasis on community outreach and putting smiles on kids' faces in the process.

As part of a Thanksgiving week program, the library is hosting a variety of activities. On Tuesday, members of the Tri-City Storm hockey team read “10 Fat Turkeys” by Tony Johnston to a group of children.

Luke Posthumus plays for the Storm. He said the pandemic made it difficult to be in the community in recent years. This year, the team has been able to be more involved.

“Yeah, it’s always great to kind of go out in the community and kind of built the atmosphere at our games and make sure we got more fans." Posthumus said. "And also just spend time with the children, maybe inspire them to do our sport and be better.”

The Tri-City Storm's next home game is Dec. 1 at 7:05 p.m.
