GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - Police say a second person has died from injuries suffered in a car accident near Grand Island.

The driver of the pickup, 17-year-old Opal Wylie, of Grand Island, was treated at CHI St. Francis Medical Center then transported to CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney where she succumbed to her injuries.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- A woman is dead and two are injured after a fatal crash east of Grand Island. 

According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Highway 30 and Capital Ave. for a two-vehicle injury accident early Thursday morning.

According to a news release, the preliminary investigation indicates that a pickup driven by a 17-year-old girl from Grand Island was stopped at the stop sign at Highway 30 and Capital Ave.

The driver was reportedly attempting to turn west when she collided with a semi-truck driven by a 71-year-old Marquette man.

The 17-year-old was injured and transported to a local hospital.

The lone passenger in the pickup has been identified as 81-year-old Roberta Tipton of Grand Island. She died at a local hospital.

The truck driver was injured and transported to a local hospital.

The investigation remains open.
