GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Police are investigating after a Grand Island daycare reported $150,000 stolen.

According to police, officers were called Monday morning at around 8:45 to St. Paul’s Cornerstone Early Learning Center to a reported theft.

Capt. Jim Duering said that a male employee, who might not be employed anymore, had purchasing habits and bookkeeping that appear suspicious.

What the police know at the moment, is there’s a $150,000 shortfall, there are some deposits that have not made it to center’s bank account yet, suspicious spending activity, and delinquent bills.

Police said there’s a possibility of it being criminal activity.

Duering said the bank became suspicious of the activity on the account and brought it to attention of one of the board members.

NCN contacted St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and they have no comment. The childcare center is still open.

This is an ongoing investigation.
