Seward County grass fire caused by abandoned camper, officials say

SEWARD, Neb -Several area fire departments responded to a fire in the Milford/Seward area on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Seward Volunteer Fire Department, the blaze ignited around 2:45 p.m. on Saturday near 196th and O Street roads. Sgt. Troy Schaefer with the Seward County Sheriff's office said the fire began in an abandoned camper.
The camper caught fire while it was being towed, and the driver left it on the side of the road along Highway 6, where the fire eventually spread.
Officials declared an evacuation notice early in the day, which was later cancelled. By 5:42 p.m. the fire had been contained.
SVFD said the fire started as a call from Pleasant Dale, but has gotten assistance from the Seward, Garland and Milford fire departments.
