GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- A man from Missouri is now in jail after a multi-county pursuit through central Nebraska.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, on Thursday at about 11:10 p.m. a trooper attempted to make a traffic stop for speeding on I-80, near Grand Island.

The driver, who has been identified as 23-year-old Zachary Rainey from Missouri, pulled over to the shoulder, then accelerated and fled eastbound as soon as the trooper exited his unit.

The pursuit continued eastbound on I-80 with speeds exceeding of 120 mph, troopers said. Rainey exited at the York interchange, entered I-80 westbound, drove through the median, exited I-80 once again and began traveling southbound on Highway 81.

Rainey then fled on a country road, through a private drive, through a front lawn and got back to Highway 81 northbound.

Troopers pursued Rainey through Hall, Hamilton and into York County.

A trooper was able to successfully bring Rainey to a stop just south of the I-80 junction with Highway 81.

Rainey has been arrested and charged with flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, driving under suspension, and resisting arrest.

Rainey has been lodged in York County Jail.

The York County Sheriff’s Office, York Police Department, and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office assisted on the incident.
