GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- A man is dead after being struck by a trailer in Grand Island on Friday.

According to Grand Island Police, on Friday morning officers responded to an accident involving a tractor-trailer that collided with a pedestrian.

A news release said the tractor-trailer was driven by a 45-year-old from Hampton.

Officials said he was heading north on Highway 281 when he drove through the intersection at Faidley Ave.

The driver reportedly said he saw the pedestrian and attempted to avoid collision, but the pedestrian was struck by the trailer.

The pedestrian, a 60-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital, and flown by medical helicopter to an Omaha hospital where he died.

The accident is still being investigated and GIPD encourages anyone who witnessed or has information about the incident to contact them.
