Merrick County head-on collision leaves one dead, one with serious injuries
CENTRAL CITY, Neb. -- Authorities said they responded to a two-vehicle injury accident where one person died near Palmer.
The Merrick County Sheriff's Office said around 7 p.m. on Monday, they responded to the accident at 61A Spur and T Road in Merrick County near Palmer.
MCSO said the preliminary investigation showed that a Ford Explorer was traveling south on 61A Spur and tried to pass another vehicle that was heading south. This resulted in a head on collision between the Ford and a Chevrolet Suburban that was heading north.
According to officials, the driver and only occupant of the Ford, 47-year-old Angela Williams of Archer, died from her injuries at a trauma center in Lincoln.
Williams was reportedly not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident. Officials said that alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor.
The driver and only occupant of the Chevrolet Suburban sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in Grand Island.
The driver of the Chevrolet was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, said MCSO.
