GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Police say a central Nebraska man is in jail after assaulting a man with a pitchfork. 

According to Grand Island Police, 37-year-old Alayn Perez assaulted a 23-year-old man with a pitchfork on Monday.

Authorities were called to Pier Park, where they found Perez still holding the pitchfork.

Police said the victim's wounds aren’t life threatening, and both men are homeless.

Perez is charged with second-degree assault, a weapons offense and obstruction. 

He also faces a misdemeanor charge related to an alleged assault earlier in the day at a homeless shelter.
