Man arrested for several charges following two-vehicle accident

MERRICK COUNTY, Neb. -- Authorities said they responded to a two vehicle injury accident Monday that resulted in the arrest of one of the drivers.
The Merrick County Sheriff's Office said that deputies responded to Highway 30 and Second Road for the accident.
Through investigation, the Sheriff's Office said they concluded that a Ford F150 was heading south on Second Road coming up on Highway 30, speeding.
According to officials, the driver, 29-year-old John Groves, failed to slow down for the railroad tracks, failed to stop at the stop sign, and collided with a Chrysler Pacifica that was heading west on Highway 30.
The Sheriff's Office said that the Pacifica occupied by several occupants.
Groves was arrested for driving under the influence, willful reckless driving, open alcohol containers, seatbelt violation, and a stop sign violation.
Merrick County Sheriff's Office said that Groves was taken to Merrick County Corrections.
Authorities reported that one occupant of the Pacifica was taken to a medical facility for non-life-threatening injuries that they got during the accident.
The Grand Island Rural Fire and Rescue Department and the Hall County Sheriff's Office assisted with this incident.
The Sheriff's Office said that the occupants in the Pacifica were all wearing their seatbelts, however, Groves was not using a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Officials said that impaired reckless driving is the contributing factor in this accident.
