KEARNEY, Neb. — Authorities are investigating a small plane crash near Kearney that they say had no survivors.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office says it received a call around 9:15 Friday morning of an aircraft crash south of Interstate 80. First responders found the crash site in a field near the east edge of Bassway Strip State Wildlife Management Area, which is about 12 miles east of Kearney.

A news release says the crash involved a small, single-engine plane. Investigators say there were no survivors but they can’t confirm details about the occupant. There was heavy rain in the area at the time of the crash.

Locally, Kearney Police, Nebraska Game and Parks, Nebraska State Patrol, Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department are assisting with the investigation. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will also be investigating.
