KEARNEY, Neb. — Kearney Police are investigating an early-morning shooting near the University of Nebraska-Kearney campus.

Officers responded to a report of gunshots around 2:30 Sunday morning in the 1000 block of W 23rd St., which is one block south of UNK’s Bruner Hall. A news release says officers found a man with an apparent stab wound to the leg a few blocks away. A rescue squad transported him to a hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Police say officers found evidence of multiple gun shots in the area. Investigators say nobody was hit by the gun fire but several houses were.

The release says there was a disturbance inside a residence involving the victim and a group of people. Police haven’t identified any suspects and are asking anyone with information to contact them or Buffalo County Crimestoppers.

Kearney Police have been in touch with UNK Police and school leadership because of the incident’s proximity to campus.
