FAIRFIELD, Neb. — An 18-year-old is in custody after authorities say he made a threat against a Sandy Creek student and fought with police.

The Nebraska State Patrol says Sandy Creek High School reported around 8:40 Tuesday morning that a student received a threat from someone off campus. The school also received a call alleging that a student had a gun in a locker.

The school went into lockdown, prompting state troopers and local law enforcement to respond. School officials searched the locker and didn’t find a gun.

A news release says authorities identified the source of the threats within minutes. Police found the man at a house in Hastings and arrested him. The release says he fought with officers and spit on a trooper’s face.

The lockdown at Sandy Creek ended around 9:30 a.m. and students were dismissed for the day. The school postponed the track and golf events it was hosting. Other schools were already on site for the track meet but left after the lockdown was lifted.

Sandy Creek Public Schools is in a K-12 facility about 25 miles southeast of Hastings near Fairfield.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Clay County Emergency Management, Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Hastings Police Department, and Nebraska State Patrol all assisted with the response and investigation.
