KEARNEY, Neb. -- A central Nebraska nonprofit event will benefit victims of domestic and sexual abuse.

The S.A.F.E. Center in Kearney will hold its 19th annual “Purses for a Purpose” event on April 15.

It will include a dinner, a live auction and around 200 items will be featured in a silent auction.

Executive Director Nikki Gausman hopes that people participating know they have contributed to supporting victims.

“We also hope that they will learn ways that they too can help support the survivors that we work with," Gausman said. "And hoping that they go away learning that they can also help prevent violence in our community.”

The funds raised will support the organization and survivors of abuse. The S.A.F.E. Center sees close to 500 individuals per year and serves five counties.

Tickets for the event can be purchased through the S.A.F.E. Center website.

The online auction will start on the 11th and will only include the silent auction items, but not the live auction.
