Three-vehicle crash near Holdrege kills one, injures another

HOLDREGE, Neb. — A Holdrege man is dead and another person is in the hospital after a three-vehicle crash on Tuesday evening.
The Nebraska State Patrol says it happened around 5:00 four miles north of Holdrege on Highway 183. An SUV driven by 64-year-old Peggy Morten of Holdrege was slowing down to turn onto 737 Road when a semi-truck crashed into the rear of the vehicle. The State Patrol says the collision pushed the SUV into the opposite lane, where it collided with a pickup driven by 50-year-old Lawrence Johnson of Holdrege.
Paramedics transported Johnson to a Holdrege hospital where he died. A medical helicopter flew Morten from the local hospital to Kearney to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The semi driver wasn’t seriously injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
