GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- The Nebraska State Patrol said they apprehended two Colorado juveniles after a pursuit in central Nebraska Monday night.

The NSP said around 9:30 p.m., a trooper saw a Nissan Pathfinder heading east on Interstate 80 driving about 35 mph.

The trooper reportedly tried to do a traffic stop near Kearney, but the driver accelerated and fled at a high rate of speed.

At this point, NSP said that trooper initiated a pursuit.

The NSP said that the vehicle got up to speeds more than 100 mph as it fled east on I-80. It was reported that another trooper was able to successfully deploy stop sticks to slow the vehicle.

Authorities said that the suspect vehicle then exited I-80 at the Shelton interchange and began traveling north at slower speeds.

A little while later, NSP said a trooper was able to successfully perform a tactical vehicle intervention to bring the vehicle to a stop.

NSP said the driver, a 13-year-old female, and the passenger, an 11-year-old male, were taken into custody without further incident.

Troopers said they found a firearm in the vehicle along with a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Both the 13- and 11-year-old were placed into protective custody.

The NSP said the pursuit laster about 16 minutes.

The Buffalo County Sheriff's Office and Shelton Police Department assisted in the incident.
