GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- After receiving the license and approval on the hours of operation from the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission last week, the Grand Island Casino Resort temporary casino is preparing to open its doors.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place Tuesday at noon, inside the concourse at Fonner Park.

The casino is on the Fonner Park concourse and features about 300 slot machines, horse betting kiosks and a snack bar.

It was announced in October that the NRGC approved Fonner Park plans to remodel its facility to house the temporary Grand Island Casino.

This is the second casino in the state after WarHorse in Lincoln.

The casino will be open from 8 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and will stay open until 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
