SILVER CREEK, NE — An Oklahoma man is facing charges after authorities say he was involved in a serious car accident.

The Merrick County Sheriff’s Office says 21-year-old Nassar Lopez-Torres of Tulsa was driving south on Highway 39 about five miles north of Silver Creek earlier this week. An investigation showed that his car entered the east ditch, collided with fence lines and rolled twice before coming to a stop upright in a tree.

The Sheriff’s Office says Lopez-Torres and his passenger then removed the license plates and identifying documents from the car and left the scene. Deputies found them smoking marijuana about 1.5 miles from the scene.

Lopez-Torres is charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, no operators license and two drug violations.
