Authorities responding to train derailment east of Gothenburg

Responders are on the scene at a derailed Union Pacific train about two miles east of Gothenburg.

UPDATE: NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - An eastbound Union Pacific train carrying coal from Wyoming derailed around 7:30 a.m. Thursday about two miles southeast of Gothenburg. The Union Pacific Railroad said about 30 coal cars derailed.

Union Pacific worked quickly to clear one track so train travel could continue. Clean-up crews from the Union Pacific are actively clearing the other two tracks as of Thursday afternoon.

 

GOTHENBURG, Neb. -- A central Nebraska train derailment had first responders on the scene early Thursday.

Witnesses say that emergency authorities arrived on the scene of a Union Pacific train derailment about two miles east of Gothenburg at approximately 7:30 a.m.

There is no word yet on injuries, and no information on the cause.
