GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Two people are in critical condition after a car accident in central Nebraska. 

The Nebraska State Patrol said the accident happened Sunday morning on I-80 near Grand Island, shortly after an Aurora Police Officer attempted a traffic stop on one of the involved vehicles.  

Authorities said a car turned around when approached by an Aurora Police Officer and went into the opposite lanes. 

Shortly after, the car crashed head-on with an SUV. 

An 18-year-old man was ejected from the car and flown to a hospital in Grand Island with life-threatening injuries. 

The driver of the SUV also suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to a hospital in Omaha. 

Several others had minor injuries. 

Authorities said the accident is under investigation.
