HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Adams County has declared a State of Emergency as a result of the damage from storms earlier this month.
The high wind and tornadoes that Adams County experienced on Dec. 15, 2021, have resulted in large financial losses throughout the county. Extensive Power supply damage that included utility poles and powerlines throughout most of Adams County, has led to this declaration.
While Individual Assistance will most likely not be available through FEMA, a state proclamation is expected Tuesday. The state declaration will open additional funding streams including low-interest SBA loans and other potential avenues to seek assistance from. Public Assistance will be made available for infrastructure damage through FEMA.
From the FEMA Policy Manual, “EMA’s Public Assistance Program provides supplemental grants to state, tribal, territorial, and local governments, and certain types of private non-profits so that communities can quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies. FEMA also encourages protection of these damaged facilities from future events by providing assistance for hazard mitigation measures during the recovery process.”
The State of Emergency for Adams County encompasses the entire area, cities, and villages within Adams County.
Homeowners who suffered damage to their property, homes, siding, and roofs are encouraged to contact their insurance agency and schedule repairs as soon as possible. With the product shortages, upcoming winter weather, and labor shortages, the time to repair your damage may take longer than normal.
As a reminder, before signing contracts for repairs, homeowners should check references, liability insurance and designate a “completion by” date. Do not pay contractors in advance and ensure that your Insurance carrier approves of the repairs and contractor prior to authorizing any work.
