Kearney man faces litany of charges after incident involving Nebraska probation officer
KEARNEY, Neb. -- A 35-year-old Kearney man faces accusations of kidnapping, robbery and assault related to an incident with a Nebraska probation officer.
Shawn W. Smith is charged with felony kidnapping, robbery, terroristic threats and flight to avoid arrest -- all felonies -- in addition to third-degree assault and driving under the influence.
According to court records, Smith went to a residence and struck the probation officer several times before taking her to an ATM to withdraw funds.
Smith allegedly came into the residence on Saturday while the woman was in the home with a different man. After Smith reportedly tried to punch the man, the man left with his daughter and called the incident into authorities.
It was then that Smith reportedly left with the woman. Smith was eventually apprehended after being pulled over for suspected impaired driving. His blood-alcohol content tested for approximately twice the legal limit in Nebraska.
